It seems counterintuitive to clean the cleaners but if you’ve ever seen the nastiness that can build up on a mop or vacuum, you know it’s important maintenance.

Today I want to remind you to wash your trash cans because even with liners, stuff happens.

A few times a year I will pick up every trash can in the house and take them outside to wash. Add a few drops of Dawn dish soap to each can and then fill in with water from the hose.

Also, fill the trash can to the top, there’s gunk in there that needs to be soaked off.

If you have an old scrubber or sponge, this is the perfect time to use it up by scrubbing the cans and then tossing the sponge in the newly cleaned trash.

After allowing the cans to soak, I will dump out most of the water on the grass and then use a scrubber to wipe down the interior and exterior.

When all trash cans are cleaned, use the hose to rinse out the rest of the soap and let them dry outside if the weather allows.

In between major cleanings you can use air fresheners or baking soda in the bottom to battle odors.
