If you’re a person with potted plants in your home, you know how tricky it can be to keep every one watered, in good light and not swarming with bugs. Even the plants that come in clean can attract gnats and other pests with ease.

Here are 3 steps to cleaning up your household plants today:

  1. Water all your plants and make sure they don’t drip. Whether hanging plants or set on a flat surface, over watering can lead to water leaks and drips that ruin furniture, floors and fabrics. Plastic saucers that fit under the pot are fairly cheap and worth the investment.
  2. Purchase some sticky traps for your plants and be amazed at how many bugs they catch! I use these from Amazon because they are easy to use without getting the glue all over your hands and have a wide surface area to catch bugs.
  3. Wipe down the exterior of your potted plants from dust, spiderwebs, water spots and more. Especially if your pots are on the floor or you have animals that might, uh, mark such things, you need to clean the outside frequently.

If you do find that some of your plants need nutrients, more soil or to be tidied up, I highly suggest an outdoor or utility sink. Don’t let all the loose dirt go down your drains and clog things up!
