Admittedly, I stole this phrasing from the “Flylady” – a woman who has made a business out of her own home routines to others. While most of the advice does not work in my lifestyle, this is one I think we can all adopt weekly, if not daily.

The goal is to end every day by shining every sink in your house, meaning the sink is clear of dishes and wiped down until it “shines” before you go to bed.

While I’m not in the habit of scrubbing my sinks daily, it’s a good reminder to clean up those little messes before they become big messes.

You know, like the toothpaste that doesn’t get washed down the sink, whiskers from shaving, soap scum, bits of food leftover on plates or even wringing out your sponge so it doesn’t sit in the sink soaking in water, stinking.

Granted, it’s easier to see your sink shine if it’s metal, but every sink deserves a little TLC.

If your sink is overflowing with dishes and the thought of cleaning it by tonight seems impossible, check out my post on overcoming dirty dishes here.

Shining your sink before bed doesn’t mean it can’t get dirty again, if you find a stray dish or need to wash your hands. Try doing it for the next week and see if your mornings are not better walking into a kitchen with a clean sink!
