Over time, we all accumulate stuff, some of it junk, some useful and some really special. When I think about the items I’ve purchased I must admit that I can sometimes “save” special items for special days.

I’ve been intentionally breaking that habit.

Instead, I want to use the beautiful items I own and use up items that I’ve purchased.

For example, my daily utensils are a beautiful set of gold silverware I picked up at an auction which I love. They don’t sit in a drawer waiting for a holiday. I also drink from really cool vintage glasses and beautiful mugs, having donated all of my old boring ones.

These are a little easier to use because it takes years, maybe decades, to “use up” a dinner plate.

It’s harder when using something exhausts it, such as fancy lotions or soaps, candles, makeup, teas, hot sauces – anything edible or limited use.

So if you received an incredible set of teas for Christmas, drink them!

Scented candle? Burn it.

That beautiful makeup palate which looks so pristine is meant to be used.

A gifted bar of handmade soap doesn’t bring any benefit sitting in a drawer. Put it by the sink.

Pretty journal? Write in it.

Skin care mask? Put it on.

Awesome sprinkles? Sprinkle them on the cake.

Crafting supplies? Create something!

So much of appreciating what you have in life is being willing to use it and enjoy it in daily life.
